Nondeterministic State Complexity of Positional Addition

چکیده
Consider nondeterministic finite automata recognizing base-k positional notation of numbers. Assume that numbers are read starting from their least significant digits. It is proved that if two sets of numbers S and T are represented by nondeterministic automata of m and n states, respectively, then their sum {s+ t | s ∈ S, t ∈ T } is represented by a nondeterministic automaton with 2mn+2m+2n+1 states. Moreover, this number of states is necessary in the worst case for all k> 9.

A Novel Qualitative State Observer
The state estimation of a quantized system (Q.S.) is a challenging problem for designing feedback control and model-based fault diagnosis algorithms. The core of a Q.S. is a continuous variable system whose inputs and outputs are represented by their corresponding quantized values. This paper concerns with state estimation of a Q.S. by a qualitative observer. The presented observer in this pape...
متن کاملNondeterministic State Complexity of Basic Operations for Prefix-Free Regular Languages
We investigate the nondeterministic state complexity of basic operations for prefix-free regular languages. The nondeterministic state complexity of an operation is the number of states that are necessary and sufficient in the worst-case for a minimal nondeterministic finite-state automaton that accepts the language obtained from the operation. We establish the precise state complexity of caten...

متن کاملNondeterministic state complexity of nested word automata
We study the nondeterministic state complexity of Boolean operations on regular languages of nested words. For union and intersection we obtain matching upper and lower bounds. For complementation of a nondeterministic nested word automaton with n states we establish a lower boundΩ( √ n!) that is significantly worse than the exponential lower bound for ordinary nondeterministic finite automata ...
متن کاملResults on the Average State and Transition Complexity of Finite Automata Accepting Finite Languages
We investigate the average-case state and transition complexity of deterministic and nondeterministic finite automata, when choosing a finite language of given maximum word length n uniformly at random. The case where all words are of equal length is also taken into account. It is shown that almost all deterministic finite automata accepting finite languages over a binary input alphabet have st...
